K Health is partnering with Philadelphia-based University of Pennsylvania Health System to roll out AI tools across the health system’s EHR platforms, with an initial focus on virtual urgent care and plans to expand into primary and specialty care.
The multiyear collaboration will begin with Penn Medicine OnDemand, the health system’s virtual urgent care program, before extending into in-person primary care and specialties including cardiology and dermatology, according to a May 27 news release.
The health system said the technology is intended to help reduce patient wait times, streamline clinical workflows and support clinicians with visit preparation and documentation tasks.
K Health’s platform uses an AI-driven intake process that asks patients questions about their symptoms and reasons for seeking care before a visit. The system then generates a draft clinical chart that is sent directly into the provider’s EHR before the appointment, according to the news release.
Penn Medicine plans to integrate the AI tools into its existing patient-facing digital platforms and EHR systems. K Health said the platform is designed to interpret symptoms, medications and treatment pathways using structured clinical data and real-world medical interactions.
The organizations also plan to collaborate on peer-reviewed research examining the use of clinical AI in routine care settings.
