Patient inquiries at forefront of healthcare AI adoption

Answering patient inquiries is the predominant application of large language model technology within the healthcare industry, a April 23 survey from AI healthcare company John Snow Labs found.

John Snow Labs conducted the “2024 Generative AI in Healthcare Survey” with 304 participants. The survey, conducted from Feb. 12 to March 15, had 196 respondents employed by organizations actively involved in assessing, using or implementing generative AI technologies.

The survey revealed that the primary use of generative AI technology in the healthcare industry was addressing patient inquiries, accounting for 21% of instances. Medical chatbots constituted 20% of applications, while information extraction/data abstraction comprised 19%.
