Agencies responding to the storm may use direct authority to appoint candidates to “competitive service career, career-conditional, term or temporary appointments” in relief and recovery roles as a result of Harvey, wrote OPM Acting Director Kathleen McGettigan in an Aug. 27 memo.

These roles include medical officers, nurses, diagnostic radiologic technicians, pharmacists, veterinary medical officers and IT management positions focusing on information security.

The authority expires Sept. 30.
