The OpenEMR Consortium is comprised of 12 vendors, including Sunset Systems, ViSolve and ZH Healthcare. Its proposal to the Coast Guard is based on OpenEMR, an open source EHR, as the main product.
In April, the Coast Guard released a request for information asking for industry insight into how to digitize the branch’s paper records. The Coast Guard has been using paper records since it terminated its EHR contract with Epic in 2016.
“The beauty of our solution is that modules can be built for specific uses for the USCG and can easily be replaced from the open community where the code is kept constant and compliant by the collective team utilizing strict change control and change management processes,” OpenEMR’s proposal reads.
