Online reputation: Most physicians read what patients have to say about them in reviews

Online reviews affect a physician's reputation, whether for good or ill.

In the past, many physicians rejected the idea of online reviews as important, but now more than 80 percent report monitor their online ratings, according to a Vitals survey.

Here are five other findings from the survey.

•    75 percent of physicians check more than one online rating site
•    12 percent of physicians check reviews at least once each week
•    33 percent of physicians check reviews monthly
•    42 percent of physicians check reviews a few times per year
•    13 percent of physicians never check online ratings
