Oncology tech startups raise $7.4B through private investment funding in 2017, analysis finds

Oncology-focused startups garnered the most private investment funding of any medical specialty in 2017, according to an AngelMD report.

For the report, the investment and networking platform reviewed 2,500-plus U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission Form D submissions filed in 2017 to identify private investments in biotechnology, pharmaceutical and other healthcare startups.

Here are the 10 medical specialties that boasted the most in private investment funding in 2017, based on AngelMD’s analysis.

1. Oncology: $7.4 billion

2. Endocrinology: $1.9 billion

3. Pathology: $1.3 billion

4. Neurology: $800 million

4. Cardiology: $800 million

4. Genetics: $800 million

7. Vascular surgery: $500 million

7. Ophthalmology: $500 million

7. Infectious disease: $500 million

7. Internal medicine: $500 million
