RECs were created last year under the HITECH portion of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 to provide technical assistance and support to healthcare providers switching from paper-based medical practice to EHRs. The ONC anticipates each REC will need $18,000 for each critical access and rural hospital it supports in addition to the funding they will receive in the base REC grant.
Jan. 12 is the application deadline for the grant.
