ONC Seeks Comments on National Health Information Network Governance

HHS' Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology seeks comments for the governance of a nationwide health information network, according to a Federal Register report.

The ONC seeks comment on a variety of the health information network's governance elements, including:

• The initial set of "conditions for trusted exchange" of electronic health information
• A process to revise, adopt and retire the initial set of conditions
• A voluntary program to validate compliance with the conditions
• A process to classify nationwide readiness to adopt and use technical standards to support nationwide health information exchange

The health information network in question is not a specific infrastructure to exchange data. Rather, the ONC defines the health information network as a "continually expanding ecosystem of electronic exchange activities for which stakeholders would be able to select the appropriate set of standards, services and policies to meet their electronic exchange needs."
