Obama Designates This Week National Health Information Technology Week

The White House has released a presidential proclamation designating the week of Sept. 11-17, 2011, as National Health Information Technology Week.

The week was created to emphasize the importance of secure and efficient information systems, such as electronic health records and electronic prescriptions, in improving healthcare delivery. In the proclamation, President Barack Obama noted several benefits of health IT, including improved care coordination, better informed patients and providers, reduction of dangerous drug interactions and lower costs from fewer duplicative tests and less paperwork.
