Novant Health was the first healthcare system in North Carolina to join the federal HIE, named eHealth Exchange. The new connection allows clinicians to share patient information across both health systems.

The VA does not directly connect with any state, public or private HIE, and can only be accessed through the eHealth Exchange, according to a hospital news release.
