The audit found the state agency paid $118.6 million to hospitals in its Medicaid EHR incentive program during the audit period. In total, the agency made incorrect payments to 15 hospitals, overpaying 10 hospitals a total of $2.4 million and underpaying five hospitals a total of $137,000. The net overpayment is approximately $2.3 million.
The OIG recommends the state agency to refund the federal government the $2.3 million in overpayments, adjust the remaining incentive payments to account for the errors and review calculations for hospitals not reviewed by OIG to determine if adjustments are required. In response to the audit, the state agreed with the findings and recommendations for future action.
