NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital pays $300K over pixel fallout

New York Attorney General Letitia James and New York City-based NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital reached a settlement, which calls for the health system to pay $300,000 for using advertising tools that shared personal information with technology companies.

The health system used pixel-tracking technology between 2016 and 2022. In some cases, the third parties received health information about the website visitors. In addition to the $300,000 payment, NewYork-Presbyterian must implement new third-party compliance standards and privacy policies.

“We are pleased to have reached a resolution with the New York State Attorney General on this matter,” a NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital told Becker’s. “The privacy and security of our patients’ health information is of paramount importance, and the protection of this confidential information remains a top priority. We continually assess our data collection, data privacy, and digital monitoring tools and practices so that they meet or exceed the highest standards.”
