New York Governor Andrew Cuomo (D) signed a bill delaying mandated electronic prescribing for one year, according to Newsday.
The bill extends the deadline for providers, dentists and other prescribers from March 27, 2015 to March 27, 2016.
The delay aims to give vendors ample time to receive certification, as electronic prescribing systems need to be certified by the Bureau of Narcotic Enforcement, according to the report.
"Software delivery delays and other challenges made it exceedingly clear many would not have been compliant [with the mandate] absent an extension of the implementation date," said Dennis Whalen, president of the Healthcare Association of New York State, in the report.
