The tool, Rx Open, uses Google Maps to help people locate pharmacies whether they are open or closed. The information can also help government officials assess a disaster situation’s impact on public health in a particular area. The NCPDP Foundation provides grant support to Healthcare Ready, allowing the organization to offer Rx Open services for free to those who need it.
Currently, Rx Open is monitoring the disastrous flooding in Texas, Arkansas and Louisiana. The tool was most recently updated Aug. 16.
According to The Weather Channel, flooding has impacted 40,000 homes and at least 11 people have died. The federal government has declared the severe floods as a major disaster. The floods have also affected Texas and Arkansas.
