The report cites an example from CHRISTUS Health, which has approximately 700 software applications. The problem is although not all the applications are needed to demonstrate meaningful use, the health system still has to determine which applications require meaningful use certification.
Attempting to determine which software applications need certification requires providers to go back and “deconstruct” the meaningful use criteria, which is no easy feat and will only get more difficult as meaningful use stages 2 and 3 roll out in coming years.
