New Bayer campaign encourages genomic cancer testing

On May 1, Bayer launched the "Test Your Cancer" campaign, which encourages cancer patients to undergo genomic testing to ensure more precise diagnoses and increase their treatment options.

Genomic cancer testing identifies alterations within cells' DNA that can give greater insight into a tumor's function, information that can be used to match patients with approved or investigational treatments. However, according to the pharmaceuticals giant, only 25 percent of cancer patients and caregivers currently discuss genomic cancer testing with a physician.

"Genomic cancer testing allows physicians to create a more individualized treatment plan for the patient based on their cancer," Robert LaCaze, EVP of Bayer's Oncology Strategic Business Unit, said. "During this important time when innovation in cancer treatment is rapidly evolving, Bayer is encouraging genomic cancer testing from the start of a diagnosis, in order to make well-informed treatment decisions based on the patient's cancer."
