Physicians are available 24 hours per day through the service and can connect to patients using the app on a smartphone, tablet or computer. Visits cost $49 and are facilitated through Nemours’ partnership with telehealth company American Well.
“It can be really difficult to get a sick child in to the car and to the doctor. Nemours CareConnect lets you immediately see a pediatrician right from the comfort of your home,” Shayan Vyas, MD, medical director for Nemours telehealth in Florida, said in a statement. “Parents can also feel good knowing that each provider available for a video visit is a part of the Nemours team of pediatric experts.”
The service is currently available anywhere in the state and while insurers are not yet covering the visits, Dr. Vyas is hopeful they will soon be on board.
“The compliance rate for telemedicine is a lot higher than conventional ways of seeing your physician,” Dr. Vyas told WMFE. “The reason is it’s convenient. You no longer have to wait in their waiting room. You can get the care where you need it and how you need it.”
