Nebraska is slated to become the first state to require electronic tracking of all dispensed prescriptions as of Jan. 1, 2018.

DrFirst will capture prescription information from pharmacies across the state and submit it to Nebraska’s PDMP. The goal is to provide physicians and pharmacists with patient prescription histories to inform decisions about medical care.

The PDMP may help a prescriber address a patient’s opioid use in the context of their care plan, while also highlighting other patterns of abuse.

“DrFirst is working closely with us to deliver the functionality we need to further enhance our PDMP, provide a complete view of a patient’s prescription history and the ability to catch potential red flags, including adverse reactions and opioid abuse,” said Deb Bass, CEO at NeHII.
