Sittig, PhD, propose this program should involve data gathering, investigations and analyses and “regulatory components,” according to the article. They suggest EHR safety committees should investigate and report EHR-related adverse events and near-misses in addition to performing safety self-assessments to identify new risks.
Their proposal follows the Institute of Medicine’s release of a report calling for increased oversight of health IT over concerns of safety.
