Movers and shakers: 8 latest leadership changes affecting health IT

Becker’s Hospital Review reported the following health IT executive moves recently affecting hospitals, companies and federal agencies:

1. The Department of Veterans Affairs announced July 10 the appointment of Gil Alterovitz, PhD, as its first director of artificial intelligence, a position that will be based in the VA’s Office of Research and Development.

2. W.B. Mitchell will join American Well as the telehealth provider’s new group vice president of government solutions.

3. Lisa Rometty, the vice president and general manager of oncology, life sciences and personal health at IBM Watson Health, is leaving the company.

4. Blanchard Valley Health System in Findlay, Ohio, appointed James Wellman CIO.

5. Morristown, N.J.-based Atlantic Health System named Sylvia Romm, MD, chief innovation officer.

6. AliveCor, a startup company focused on building smartphone apps and devices that monitor users’ heart rhythm, selected Priya Abani to serve as CEO.

7. The American Telemedicine Association elected Joseph C. Kvedar, MD, as president-elect.

8. Lafayette (La.) General Health has tapped Fallon Strother McManus, MD, to serve as chief medical information officer, effective Aug. 5.
