More than 34K Patients Affected by D.C.’s Howard University Hospital Data Breach

Howard University Hospital in Washington, D.C., has announced a potential disclosure of protected health information, including Social Security numbers, for 34,503 patients.

The data breach occurred in January when a former contractor’s personal laptop containing patient information was stolen. The former contractor downloaded patient files in violation of Howard University policy. While no evidence suggests that any patient files have been accessed, all 34,503 patients have been notified of the breach.
