The probe, led by the National Association of Insurance Commissioners, will conduct weekly calls with Anthem to explore the damage done by the breach. Montana Insurance Commissioner Monica Linden is the present of the NAIC.
The seven other states are California, Indiana, Maine, Missouri, New Hampshire, North Dakota and South Carolina. The investigation was announced Feb. 27 and may expand in the future, as the coalition expects other states to join, according to a news release.
Anthem is still investigating the number of customers affected in each state.
Montana may have more affected individuals than other states because some large employers in Montana may have contracted their employee insurance through Anthem, according to KXLF.
An early estimate projects that approximately 48,000 Montanans are affected by the breach, according to the report.
