The affected patients involve those who were admitted to Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina, Minn., between April 2010 and Feb. 2011. The medical and billing records included patients’ names, birth dates and medical diagnoses. The records, which were boxed up in preparation for a move to a new office located a few miles away, were reported missing on Feb. 21. Under federal law, hospitals are required to notify patients of a data breach within 60 days.
While the search for the missing medical records continues, hospital officials said they are offering a free year of identity protection services to all affected patients.
