On Feb. 8, a Meridian employee received an email from someone claiming to be an executive. Per the email’s request, the employee sent the W-2 information — including names, addresses, Social Security numbers, wages and other tax information — of all individuals employed by Meridian Health Services during the 2016 calendar year.
Meridian Health Services discovered the scam on Feb. 16.
It immediately notified all affected employees and will provide them with free credit monitoring services.
“Meridian has given full attention to this matter so it is solved as quickly as possible,” said Meridian Health Services President and CEO Hank Milius in a statement. “This is extremely unfortunate and we are doing everything we can to ensure our valued employees’ personal information is safe.”
