Medtronic launches Android app for diabetes monitoring

Medtronic's MiniMed Connect mobile accessory and app, which is used for glucose monitoring, is now available on Android devices.

MiniMed Connect, which was initially launched on iOS in September 2015, allows diabetes patients to view their insulin pump and continuous glucose monitoring information with a smartphone application. With permission, healthcare providers can also access this data through CareLink therapy management software, which can help physicians to personalize their therapy recommendations.

"For individuals with diabetes, the need to constantly monitor sugar levels can be cumbersome and far from discreet," said David Rhew, MD, chief medical officer and head of healthcare and fitness at Samsung. "Working with Medtronic, we are harnessing the power of industry leading mobile technology to make diabetes management less stressful and more seamless for the millions of Americans living with the condition."
