Massachusetts HIE Growing, Has Facilitated 1.35M Transactions

Massachusetts’ growing statewide health information exchange sent 93,132 transactions in July 2013 and has sent 1,349,083 transactions to date, according to an update from the state’s health IT council.

The Massachusetts Health Information Highway is also in the process of adding more providers and connecting to other HIEs, including Holyoke HM Connect HIE and Pioneer Valley Information Exchange.

“Our next major milestone is MassHIway Phase II which includes a master patient index and relationship locator service for ‘pulling’ data with patient consent in an emergency,” said John Halamka, CIO of MassHIway member Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, in a blog post.
