Maryland Grants Providers Online Access to Prescription Drug Database

The Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene has announced the beginning of provider access to Maryland's Prescription Drug Monitoring Program database.

Providers will now have access to their patients' Maryland controlled substance prescription history, a move state officials hope will help curb prescription drug abuse.

Provider access to the data will be provided by the Chesapeake Regional Information System for Our Patients, which also administers the statewide health information exchange.

"We're very excited to partner with DHMH to implement the PDMP," said David Horrocks, CRISP's Chief Executive Officer. "Combining these two major health IT projects will allow us to better serve the needs of providers and their patients in Maryland and throughout the region."
