Here are four things to know about the VA’s new IT leader.
1. On June 23, the Senate confirmed Ms. Council as the VA’s CIO and assistant secretary for information technology.
2. Ms. Council’s appointment ends a two-year opening in the CIO position. Roger Baker, the previous VA CIO, resigned in February 2013. Stephen Warren stepped in as acting CIO, in addition to his role as principal deputy assistant secretary for IT.
3. In addition to confirming Ms. Council’s role, the VA added David Shulkin as its undersecretary for health.
4. Ms. Council will manage the VA’s $4 billion IT portfolio, according to the report.
