Kaiser conducts 2nd IT layoff

Oakland, Calif.-based Kaiser Foundation Hospitals is eliminating more than 70 employees, primarily those who serve in IT roles, the San Francisco Chronicle reported March 4.

According to information Kaiser provided to the California Employment Development Department, the workforce reductions would affect 49 employees in Pleasanton, one in Oakland, two in Stockton and 20 from various locations across the state, primarily in Pasadena.

The affected positions, mainly in the IT sector of the organization, are not associated with direct patient care, according to the filing with the California Employment Development Department.

Affected employees were notified Feb. 26 about the layoffs. Permanent layoffs will take effect within 60 days of the notice.

Kaiser told the news outlet that the layoffs are "difficult but necessary."

This isn't Kaiser's first IT-based layoff. In December, the organization said it would be laying off 115 IT positions nationwide, with the majority in Northern California.
