JDRF leverages Amazon Web Services for cloud-based diabetes research

JDRF is using Amazon Web Services' cloud technology to further its research into juvenile diabetes.

JDRF, formerly known as the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, has developed the Diabetes Data Platform to curate Type 1 diabetes research, then make it available to researchers, healthcare providers and other stakeholders such as the Food and Drug Administration, according to an Oct. 5 AWS blog post. The project was funded through an AWS Imagine Grant.

The goal is to advance the screening and treatment for Type 1 diabetes. AWS hosts the data sets and provides security for them.

Future advances may utilize data from medical devices worn by patients with Type 1 diabetes, as well as genomic data sets, the blog post stated.
