York, Pa.-based WellSpan Health and Royal Philips have entered a seven-year strategic alliance covering advanced imaging technology, AI-enabled care and a joint research and co-development agreement across WellSpan’s 12 hospitals, diagnostic imaging centers and ambulatory surgery centers.

The commercial agreement establishes Philips as WellSpan’s preferred vendor across applicable imaging modalities, including CT, MR, digital X-ray, ultrasound and image-guided therapy. Equipment, service, training and upgrade planning will be managed under a single, coordinated lifecycle framework across all sites.

The alliance also includes a research and innovation agreement, which Philips said is the first of its kind between the company and a U.S. community health system. The research component will examine how AI and digital tools improve throughput, cost and workflow efficiency, with WellSpan targeting the recovery of more than 500,000 workforce hours annually. Under the innovation component, WellSpan and Philips Research will co-develop new products and features drawing on Philips’ R&D pipeline.

The alliance was announced in a June 4 news release.
