WellSpan Health has completed its migration to Amazon Web Services.
The York, Pa.-based health system moved more than 300 clinical applications and 7.5 petabytes of clinical and non-clinical data, including its full Epic EHR environment, off data center infrastructure and onto AWS.
WellSpan finished the migration in 17 weeks, a pace it says outstrips industry norms for a project of this scale. Becker’s first reported the planned migration in January, when WellSpan named AWS as its preferred cloud provider.
The move consolidates clinical and non-clinical systems across medicine, nursing, cardiology, pharmacy and supply chain into a single, standardized, AI-ready environment for WellSpan’s 1.2 million patients.
“This milestone is not the end of a technology project, but rather the cornerstone of our next phase of innovation,” Roxanna Gapstur, Ph.D., R.N., president and CEO of WellSpan Health said in a July 22 news release. “The cloud will serve as the critical element to help us deliver on our commitments to our teams and our patients. We have always believed that community health systems can lead the future of health care, and what we have built here proves that.”
WellSpan is now moving into a second phase, shifting from migration to optimization by adopting native AWS services to expand its AI capabilities across the health system.
