Marlton, N.J.-based Virtua Health has eliminated 15,000 excess hospital days after building AI tools with Microsoft.
Here are three things to know from an April 7 Microsoft news release:
1. The five-hospital system created Power BI dashboards and Copilot summaries to provide patient overviews for clinicians, cutting review time from about a half hour to five minutes.
2. Virtua Health team built a model in Azure AI Foundry to transform unstructured patient notes into structured predictions, improving heart-failure patient identification by 84 percentage points. Subsequently, heart failure follow-up rates increased from 58% to 81% and the average hospital stay in specialized heart-failure units fell by a day.
3. Virtua developed a custom XGBoost model in Azure trained on EHR data and integrated into Epic, reducing false positives for sepsis by more than 80% compared to commercial tools.
