Pittsburgh-based UPMC pledged funding to three startups at a “Shark Tank”-style competition, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported April 22.
Six finalists delivered their pitches to a panel that included UPMC Enterprises President Jeanne Cunicelli and “Shark Tank” judge Mark Cuban at Carnegie Mellon University. The startups all use AI for sports or health and wellness, coinciding with the NFL draft that starts April 23 in Pittsburgh.
UPMC offered migraine-tracking app Peachy Day access to pilot the tool at its facilities, and committed $125,000 to athletic performance sensor maker Sensi Fit, $75,000 to neuromuscular wearable developer MyoVerse, and $50,000 to neural network startup Perforated A1.
The total prize pool was $1.75 million, including up to $1 million in Amazon Web Services cloud credits.
