UW Medical Center (Seattle).The UW Medical Center has participated in numerous projects and green initiatives to improve the institution’s sustainability efforts. In 2013, the hospital diverted a total of 2,345 tons of waste from local landfills and reduced electrical power consumption by nearly 12 million kilowatt hours per year. The medical center also engaged in projects such as implementing energy-efficient facility upgrades and utilizing safer cleaning technologies and chemicals. In 2017, the hospital received the Practice Greenhealth Top 25 Environmental Excellence Award for the 11th consecutive year.
