The University of Rochester Medical Center in Rochester, N.Y., has entered a seven-year Care Alliance with GE HealthCare to upgrade imaging technology, expand precision medicine capabilities and standardize patient monitoring across the UR Medicine system.

Here are five things to know about the partnership:

  1. The agreement includes establishing a center of excellence in URMC’s Imaging Sciences department and deploying new MRI systems equipped with on-device AI to improve image clarity and reduce scan times.

  2. URMC will also install one of the first Aurora SPECT/CT scanners in the U.S., a dual-energy CT capable of single heartbeat cardiac scans, and add LOGIQ E10 ultrasound systems. The alliance is structured to allow in-place upgrades as innovations become available, minimizing construction and downtime.

  3. URMC is working to obtain an on-site cyclotron to produce radiopharmaceuticals used in PET imaging. Health system leaders said in a Dec. 3 news release that the in-house production of short-lived radioisotopes will support its theranostics and precision medicine programs, enabling individualized care and reducing the risk of treatment disruptions.

  4. The collaboration also standardizes patient monitoring across UR Medicine using GE HealthCare’s Carescape platform, including bedside monitors, telemetry, central monitoring and wearable technology. The system is designed to streamline workflows, reduce alarm fatigue and improve clinical decision-making.
  5. URMC leaders said the partnership aims to improve systemwide efficiency while expanding access to advanced imaging and monitoring technologies for patients across the Finger Lakes region.
