GE HealthCare and UCSF Health have entered into a 10-year collaboration aimed at expanding advanced imaging capabilities and strengthening care delivery across the health system.
Here are six things to know about the partnership:
- The agreement, described as a Care Alliance, will bring GE HealthCare imaging solutions to multiple clinical settings within UCSF Health.
- According to a Feb. 26 news release, the alliance marks the first major agreement between GE HealthCare and UCSF Health, building on a decades-long relationship between University of California San Francisco and the imaging technology company.
- Under the agreement, the organizations will focus on three primary areas: expanding remote imaging capabilities, advancing radiologic technologist education and workforce development and strengthening MRI performance across the system.
- GE HealthCare and UCSF Health plan to expand remote scanning support to improve access to complex imaging procedures and bring specialized care to patients in more locations. The collaboration also aims to enhance MRI performance by optimizing imaging protocols and integrating service management to promote consistent, high-quality imaging.
- Workforce development is another central component of the alliance. As part of UCSF Health’s Career Pathways Initiative — supported by Crankstart, Tipping Point Community and the Ignite Fund — the health system will expand a radiologic technologist education program. The program will include structured instruction, hands-on clinical training and a peer mentorship model intended to prepare new and transitioning technologists for clinical roles.
