AI scribes are now being used by nearly a third of Aurora, Colo.-based UCHealth’s 6,000 providers, with plans to expand the tool to more physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants.
The organization uses Abridge to generate clinical notes, and with the solutions maturing, larger systems like UCHealth are getting into the thousands of clinicians adopting AI scribes.
The tool’s accuracy has improved since the 14-hospital system began piloting it a year ago, and it is opening up time for providers to complete other tasks, like answering patient messages, reducing burnout, said CT Lin, MD, chief medical information officer of UCHealth, in a Jan. 13 news release.
Providers review the AI-generated notes because they still contain errors, and Dr. Lin wondered if providers — and medical students — will become complacent as the applications become even more accurate.
