Akron, Ohio-based Summa Health hosted HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. during a visit focused on healthcare innovation, behavioral health and chronic disease management.
The visit included executives from Summa Health, General Catalyst and HATCo, the healthcare company launched by General Catalyst that acquired Summa Health.
“HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. visited Akron to view firsthand the transformation efforts underway with General Catalyst/HATCo at Summa Health to create a blueprint for healthcare innovation and lifelong community-based care,” Daryl Tol, president and CEO of HATCo and acting president and CEO of Summa Health, said in a statement shared with Becker’s.
The visit was part of Mr. Kennedy’s “Take Back Your Health” tour through Ohio. Discussions centered on AI-enabled care, behavioral health, nutrition, chronic disease management, homelessness, opioid addiction treatment and public safety initiatives.
General Catalyst and HATCo also discussed efforts to build a more “proactive, resilient and affordable community-based healthcare” model through partnerships across industries and regions, according to the statement.
The organizations said they are using clinically grounded technology tools to support healthcare workers and improve patient care.
Mr. Tol said the visit highlighted General Catalyst and HATCo’s “vision for health assurance” and Summa Health’s role in advancing community-based care delivery and improving outcomes.
In 2024, Summa Health reached a $485 million definitive agreement to join Health Assurance Transformation Corp., a subsidiary of venture capital firm General Catalyst. The agreement closed Oct. 1, 2025, transitioning Summa Health into a for-profit, taxable health system backed by a “significant investment” from HATCo.
