HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said AI could help address chronic disease, which he described as necessary to lowering healthcare costs. Doing so would require consolidating health data sets and making them readable, he said, according to Politico.
Mr. Kennedy spoke Sept. 28 at a MAHA Institute summit focused on health data access and public health. He also said he had recently met with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, Politico reported.
Amy Gleason, a CMS deputy administrator, said AI needs access to data to help address those challenges and called for faster progress. Some attendees raised concerns about sharing personal health information and corporate overreach, according to Politico.
The discussion preceded the Sept. 29 MAHA Summit, which includes panels titled “AI and Healthcare” and “Building the AI Health Stack.” Representatives of Anthropic and OpenAI are scheduled to speak.
Omar Lateef, DO, president and CEO of Chicago-based Rush University System for Health, is scheduled to moderate the latter panel. Charlotte, N.C.-based Advocate Health CEO Eugene Woods is scheduled to speak on a separate panel about prevention.
