Residents and fellows at Rochester, Minn.-based Mayo Clinic are leaning into the health system’s data analytics arm to inform their careers.
They recently participated in Platform Experience Day, exploring how Mayo Clinic Platform’s database of tens of millions of deidentified patient records can inform clinical decisions and drive research. Participants will serve as “superusers” who can be liaisons between their departments and the Platform.
“If trainees know the pathway and have baseline experience, they can jump two or three steps ahead,” said Rena Hale, PhD, director of the Mayo Clinic Clinical Innovation and Entrepreneurship program, in a March 24 news release. “They’re not stuck asking, ‘What is this?’ They’re already applying it to real problems.”
For example, one team analyzed Platform data to learn how often patients finished preappointment lab work before seeing an endocrinologist.
