The study of 1,003 patients showed that AI could be used to identify high-risk patients who need more intensive cardiac monitoring. Next, the researchers plan to study the AI tool in a diverse clinical setting, according to the Sept. 28 Mayo Clinic news release provided to Becker’s.
“The study shows that an AI algorithm can select a subgroup of older adults who might benefit more from intensive monitoring. If this new strategy is broadly implemented, it could reduce undiagnosed atrial fibrillation, and prevent stroke and death in millions of patients across the globe,” said Xiaoxi Yao, PhD, author of the study and researcher at Mayo’s Department of Cardiovascular Medicine.
