Nashville, Tenn.-based HCA Healthcare expanded its AI-powered Nurse Handoff tool to 15 additional Florida hospitals in September.
The tool, according to a Sept. 25 news release, organizes information from a patient’s EHR into a shift report for the incoming nurse. Nurses can review notes, orders, test results and other clinical information on a hospital-provided mobile device.
HCA said nurses remain responsible for the handoff and their clinical decisions.
Frontline nurses at HCA Florida UCF Lake Nona Hospital in Orlando helped develop and pilot Nurse Handoff with Google Cloud. They helped determine which information the tool presents and how it fits into nursing workflows.
HCA said nurses participating in early testing rated the tool as factual and helpful, but the release did not provide results measuring its effect on handoff time or patient outcomes. HCA previously said the tool was in beta at eight hospitals in July.
