The FDA is challenging health tech innovators to design medical devices that can support patients in the home after a hospital stay to prevent readmissions.
The READI-Home (aka Reducing Readmissions through Device Innovation for the Home) Innovation Challenge launched April 7, opening up applications to device manufacturers through Sept. 30. The agency said the initiative builds on the growing interest in home-based care, including hospital at home.
The FDA plans to select up to nine winners (one per company) for the “interaction phase” starting in December, where participants can get help with device design and testing and demonstrate their technologies at FDA facilities. The device submissions may also be considered for expedited regulatory approval.
