In an April 21 press release, Amazon announced it was launching a $1 billion industrial innovation fund to encourage new ideas and solutions in customer fulfillment, logistics and supply chain and the creation of new technologies.
One of the start-ups already backed by Amazon as part of the fund is data analytics and wearables company Modjoul. It’s developing wearable safety technology that includes real-time safety alerts and recommendations with the aim of reducing common workplace injuries like strains, sprains and musculoskeletal disorders.
Other companies included in the fund are developing bi-pedal robotics, computer vision and artificial intelligence for inventory management as well as robotic arms to work on factory floors.
