Indiana Senate Approves Telehealth Medicaid Payments

The Indiana Senate has unanimously approved a bill that requires the Indiana Medicaid program to pay home health agencies, rural health clinics and federally qualified health centers for telehealth services, according to an Indianapolis Business Journal report.

The move could increase access to specialist physicians in medically underserved areas and could save the state money, given that it would lower the amount that the state spends on paying for physicians to travel to rural areas, noted Kathy Norris, a fiscal analyst with the Legislative Services Agency, in a report on the bill.
