The Maryland Department of Health awarded $80 million to 41 grantees in the first round of funding under the Rural Health Transformation Program, Gov. Wes Moore announced Aug. 10.
The awards fund projects to expand primary care, behavioral health and dental services in the state’s 18 designated rural areas. The state estimates the funding will extend primary care access to tens of thousands of additional rural Maryland residents.
Funded projects include hub-and-spoke telehealth models, virtual and mobile pediatric specialty care, integrated behavioral health and primary care services, and 3-D printing for oral health needs.
The grants are funded through a $168 million federal award from CMS, part of the national $50 billion Rural Health Transformation Program created under H.R. 1.
