IBM closes $1B Merge Healthcare acquisition: 4 things to know

IBM, based in Armonk, N.Y., has completed the $1 billion deal to acquire medical imaging and processing company Merge Healthcare.

Here are four things to know about the transaction.

1. Under the terms of the deal, Merge shareholders will receive $7.13 per share in cash.

2. Merge now joins IBM's Watson Health business unit.

3. Merge will be used to augment IBM's medical image analysis and cross-referencing capabilities within the Watson Health Cloud, which has 315 billion data points.

4. Merge clients will also be able to compare medical images against a patient's medical history and history of similar patients.
