How Phoebe Putney is prepping for its MEDITECH EHR go-live

Albany, Ga.-based Phoebe Putney Health System is in the midst of rolling out its new MEDITECH EHR, with a scheduled go-live date of Oct. 1. How is the health system preparing?

According to an Albany Herald report, the system's implementation is going by the name Project One. Currently, the pharmacy in Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital is the department requiring the most work to prepare, according to William Sewell, MD, medical director of women's and children's services. He provided the update at the hospital's Professional Affairs Committee meeting earlier this week.

The hospital is also conducted testing cycles using the new system, and providers are going through training in dedicated classrooms to familiarize themselves with the new technology, according to the report.

Dr. Sewell also said hospital officials are making note of who has undergone training. Approximately 3,500 employees are expected to be trained and receive certification on the EHR by the middle of September, according to the report.

Additionally, Phoebe Putney has consultant trainers on-site, and expects 42 outside consultants present during the go-live date. However, they don't expect to need as many outside consultants for more than a month after the go-live date, according to the report.

"We've got some challenges, but we are working hard," Dr. Sewell said. "I think we will make it."
