For the study, researchers from Bain & Co. analyzed Glassdoor ratings of tech factors and noted three that influenced where top tech talent wanted to work.
- Diversity and inclusion efforts
Nearly half of U.S. adults (48 percent) said in a Beqom survey that they would consider switching employers if it meant landing at a company with a formal diversity, equity and inclusion strategy. Companies also are recognizing that many software engineering candidates come with highly rated work samples on GitHub and coding boot camp certifications rather than just traditional avenues such as computer science degrees, according to Harvard Business Review. - Transparent and accountable managers
Tech employees prefer to work at companies where they feel their work is meaningful, according to Bain & Co.’s research. They also want managers who engage with their employees and hold themselves accountable when they make mistakes. - Culture of growth
Younger employees, such as Millennials and Gen Zers, tend to prefer employers who value coaching their workforce, according to the report. For example, Hubspot shifted from annual performance reviews to social performance management, which allows employees to receive instant feedback so they can grow at a quicker pace.
